Hurricane Rita

[Chart for Rita Landfall]

Hurricane Rita made landfall just east of Sabine Pass on Sept. 24 ’05 at 2:30am CDT. This happened within a month of Katrina’s landfall. After Katrina I wrote an article comparing the landfall charts of Katrina, Ivan, and Camille and I found an amazing similarity in all three charts of gulf coast hurricanes. Saturn, the planet of loss and storms was rising in the east in the rising sign or a bit above the Ascendant. A planet in this place in a chart is in a key place and defines the identity of the event. Also in all three charts Neptune was in the Descending sign. This is another key area of the chart and defines the event and shows what is coming to the person or event. Neptune is another name for Poseidon, god of the sea and an appropriate symbol for storm surge.

With the advent of Rita, it was natural to compare its landfall chart to the others, since all were strong storms, hitting the gulf coast and having storm surge. As hoped for, Rita also had Saturn in the east in the rising sign and Neptune in the descending sign. This is pretty good for a pseudo science.

Three differences exist between the chart of Rita and the other charts. 1. The Ascendant was very close to Saturn in Rita as opposed to Saturn being above the Ascendant in the others. In the other charts I associated Saturn above the Ascendant with bad weather before landfall. 2. The Sun in Rita’s chart is with two other planets, Mercury and Jupiter, but it is not engaged in discordant aspects with extreme planets. In Camille, the Sun squared Neptune. In Ivan, the Sun squared Pluto and conjuncted Mars. And in Katrina, the Sun opposed Uranus. 3. In comparing Rita to Katrina, the Moon was in wet Cancer in the Katrina chart and in Rita, the Moon went into Cancer later that day. I would be interested in knowing how quickly the water came up in each storm. Also, if the Moon had been in Cancer at the time of landfall, as it was for Katrina, Rita may have made landfall in New Orleans.

Generally, these differences, especially the Sun aspects, point toward Rita being weaker than Katrina, which it was, and the similarities show it to be a strong gulf coast hurricane with storm surge.

The Ascendant is the point of intersection of the ecliptic (earth’s orbit) with the horizon.
The rising sign or Ascending sign contains this point.
Aspects are geometrical relationships of sun, moon, and planets determined by distance in degrees of arc around the ecliptic.
